The data behind the desk
Situation reads a hand-picked roster of X accounts and news sources, and counts what flies over one strait. These are the numbers it collects, drawn as charts, for reporters and anyone who wants the numbers behind the wire. Each one is free to reuse with a credit to Situation, each one downloads as a CSV, and each one embeds in a story with one line of HTML. It is the numbers, not the news: the wire itself lives on the desk.
Lines on the wire, per day
Every line the roster filed, counted by the day it was posted, in UTC. A day with one story and a day with three wars in it do not look alike.

Subject: Chart: how many lines the world's news wire filed each day
Hello, I run Situation, a live desk that reads a hand-picked roster of X accounts and news sources and puts them on one map. I count every line the wire carries, so a day of world news has a number: https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/wire-volume?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data. The raw data is yours at https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/wire-volume/csv?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data, free to reuse with a credit to Situation, and the chart keeps itself current. If you want the same count cut by source or by situation, say the word.
I built Situation because following the news meant five open tabs. The daily line count is the number I check myself: a quiet day and a day with three wars in it look nothing alike.

Aircraft over the Strait of Hormuz
Every minute Situation asks adsb.lol how many aircraft are flying within 250 nautical miles of the strait, counts the civil ones above 5,000 ft, and averages them into the hour.

Subject: Chart: aircraft over the Strait of Hormuz, hour by hour
Hello, I run Situation, a live desk that follows the Strait of Hormuz. Every minute it asks adsb.lol what is flying within 250 nautical miles of the strait, so there is a running count of the civil traffic above 5,000 ft: https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/hormuz-air-traffic?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data. The hourly numbers are in a CSV at https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/hormuz-air-traffic/csv?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data, free to reuse with a credit to Situation. If you are writing about a particular day, I can pull that day for you.
Hormuz is the one place where a few aircraft and a closed channel move the oil price. I watch the count go up and down all day, so it is a public chart now.

Subject: Chart: which sources filed the most news lines this week
Hello, I run Situation, a live desk that reads a hand-picked roster of X accounts and news sources. Every line the wire carries is counted by the member that filed it, so the week has a ranking: https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/roster-members?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data. The numbers are at https://situation.dividendsolo.com/data/roster-members/csv?utm_source=email&utm_medium=pitch&utm_campaign=public-data, free to reuse with a credit to Situation. If you write about who breaks the news, I can cut the same count by situation or by week.
Reporters ask who had it first. Situation reads the roster line by line, so the count is the honest answer, whoever it favours.
